I was in Seattle with mom and we took the boys to the Drummer Boy Show at Bell Square. The street was so festive and beautiful and the high school kids did a good job of putting on a Drummer Boy show.

One of my friends from college is expecting her first baby, and I wanted to make her a soft, cuddly baby blanket. I haven't unpacked my sewing machine yet, so I made this no-sew blanket. I can't wait to start more fun projects like this, now that I have space to do them!

Our New Home

With our San Diego adventure behind us (I'll try to keep the sobbing to a minimum.....), we made the trek back north to WA, retrieved our belongings, which have been in storage for the past year, and moved into our new home in Western Washington. We now live in a rather small town, but we love the location because it only takes Leon about 10-15 minutes to get to work, and we are also very close to Bellingham, Mt. Baker, the Puget Sound, and Canada.

Beckett arrived 4 years ago today. We are discovering that in a lot of ways, he is an "old soul," and perhaps his (very) early arrival was an indication that he knew what was going on and just wanted to get going - a lot like he is now.

Grandpa Ed, Grandma Kathy, Grandpa Stan, Uncle Austin, Auntie Aleah & Trevor all flew down to help Beckett celebrate his big day. Beckett has been talking about his birthday for MONTHS now, so he was so excited for his big day to arrive.

My first 5K race

This past spring, I started training for my first 5K race. It started with a desire I had to be able to run/jog for a distance greater than a few feet. :) I am very proud of sticking to a training routine and working my running ability up to the point where I could run a 5K without walking. I participated in the Surf Monkey 5K race in Oceanside, CA. Check out their site here. It was a lot of fun accomplishing a goal that I set for myself, and I can't wait to run my next race!

The boys and I got to go back to Spokane for our first visit since we moved. Unfortunately, Leon had to stay behind to work. :( Our time went by way too fast, and we had a great time with all the ones we got to see!

Don't let his sour face fool you - we had to wake up at 4:30 the morning we flew out, so he was still a little on the sleepy side....but SO VERY excited to be going back to Spokane!

We went up to Oceanside to check out the beach and pier. Did you know that the Oceanside Pier is the longest wooden pier on the Western United States coastline at 1,954 feet?? Neither did I, until I came home and looked it up. This pier goes waaaaay out into the water and there are LOTS of people fishing off of it. When we walked clear out to the end, one of the fishermen had just caught something, so we watched him and one of his buddies pull it up. Turns out it was a sting ray!

*sigh. Yet another family photo shoot where Leon and I would have rather gone to the dentist and had all of our teeth pulled. Beckett is actually getting much better, but he has also entered the stage where when you ask him to smile, he puts on a funny, forced smile. Wyatt was in no mood to have his pictures taken...and true to 2-year-old form, his reply to any smile requests was a firm and emphatic, "NOOOO!!!!" I've learned to just deal and, especially when it comes to pictures, you get what you get!

The Carlsbad Flower Fields were so colorful and beautiful. They reminded me a lot of the tulip fields in Mt. Vernon, except the majority of the flowers here were ranunculus.

My mom flew in today so she could be here to celebrate Wyatt's birthday tomorrow, April 8th. We haven't seen her since we pulled out of their driveway back in January, when we left for San Diego. We have never gone this long without seeing each other, and of course, three months time makes for a lot of changes in a 2 and 3 year old. She was so excited to see the boys, she could hardly stand it. We did a lot of fun things while she was here, and her few short days went waaaaay too fast.

7.2 Earthquake

So, I've found the one thing I don't like about living in Southern California: EARTHQUAKES. This afternoon, while the boys were sleeping, there was a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, which shook our entire condo and created a lot of noise as well. It took me a few seconds to realize exactly what was going on.....and then to realize that it wasn't stopping, so I grabbed the boys out of their beds and ran outside and downstairs, where several other people were starting to gather as well. We felt several aftershocks as well. We did not have any major structural damage here, but we did have a few things fall off our shelves. In the pictures below, you an see the cans of soda above tipped over on the shelf, and two of them fell below to the top of the washer and dryer, and the box of Brita filters fell from the shelf to the floor. And, in the boys' room, their dresser drawers were shaken slightly open.

I've been meaning to post some pictures of the library crafts that the boys have done. I love living close enough to walk to the library, and the branch we go to offers great programs for kids. Kids Yoga is once a month, and there are usually 2-3 Story and Craft days per month too. The first craft they did, Valentine's Day cards, didn't stay in tact long enough for me to get pictures of them, but here are the other two projects they've done to date. Skiing/snow for the Olympics, and shamrocks for St. Patrick's Day. I'll keep posting pictures of the crafts as they are crafted!

Moving Roadtrip Day 5: Los Angeles, CA to San Diego!

Plan for today: make our way through this mass of humanity. In the rain. And in this city, when it rains, people put on their hazard lights and slow down (the only time they don't drive 85 on the freeway, I think).

We did try to do some sightseeing on our way through, but it was raining too much to see anything on either side of the freeway, or to get out and walk around. We did run out to the end of the Santa Monica Pier. I didn't realize that this was the end of Rte. 66....Mom and I had been on Rte 66 this past fall when we went to visit Leon in New Mexico.

And, after just under 1700 miles, we made it to San Diego! I'll post pictures of our condo soon.....

Moving Roadtrip Day 4: Monterey, CA to Los Angeles, CA

We woke up this morning to more.....rain! Hmmm....we thought we were coming to *sunny* CA?! We had to leave our perfect ocean view room behind...but not before taking a few more pictures of the waves......

Our original plan was to drive as much of the coast as we could on Hwy 1, but with all the news reports on mudslides and flooding, we decided it would be best to head inland a little and travel south on the 101. There were some beautiful vineyards and artichoke crops along the way. And we saw ANOTHER rainbow today!

You really have to look close to see it...its behind the wires on the left side of the window.

We stopped in Pismo Beach (where we spotted a Beckett street sign) for lunch and to let the boys run around for a bit, and then kept driving into northern LA before stopping for the night.

Moving Roadtrip Day 3: Martinez, CA to Monterey, CA...and Happy Birthday to me!!!

We got up this morning and after a blueberry pancake feast, we said goodbye to David & family.

We decided to do some sightseeing on our way through San Francisco, and got some great pictures by the Golden Gate Bridge (or "Golden Bridge" as Beckett called it) on our way south. We somehow timed it that we got these pictures in the 5 minute window that it wasn't raining and the sun came out!

We wanted to drive along the ocean on Hwy 1 as much as we could, so we headed down towards Monterey on the 1, and ran into some nasty spurts of rain along the way..... And then we got our first glimpse of the ocean! As you can see, the storms were creating pretty big waves. In any case, it was beautiful scenery.

We stopped in Monterey for the night and got a hotel right on the beach, with an ocean view. What a treat! Even with the stormy weather, it was amazing. This was our view for the evening:

We went out to eat on the Fisherman's Wharf at a restaurant called Old Fisherman's Grotto to celebrate my 28th birthday.

Traveling across the Golden Gate Bridge....foamy Pacific Ocean waves.....Seafood dinner in Monterey?? That's definitely a birthday to remember!

Moving Roadtrip Day 2: Roseburg, OR to Martinez, CA

Another day in the car!

We saw another rainbow today....just showing us our way along! :)

Left Roseburg, OR in our rear view mirror this morning, crossed over the border into CA, and were immediately welcomed with a torrential downpour of rain, nearly the whole way into the Bay Area. At least, we decided, it wasn't snow. But the rain was intense to say the least, and made for some tense driving at times.

We arrived in the Bay Area and stayed with David, Erin, Liam, Baby #2 (on the way) and Rachel for the night. It was fun to see them, and to see how much Liam has changed and grown since we saw him last this past summer. He and Wyatt are almost exactly one year apart, and after two whole days in the car, our boys' activity level was enough to keep Liam entertained for some time.

Moving Day / Roadtrip Day 1: Spokane to Roseburg, OR

We did it. Actually did it. Packed everything that we'll need for the next 10 months in the back of our van! If you know me and my love of shoes, you know this is no small feat. In all honesty, Leon put everything in the car, so he gets all the credit, but I consider my contribution to be severe restraint when it came to packing my afore mentioned shoes....

So we rolled out of Spokane fairly early this morning, with a goal of reaching at least central Oregon. And get this....as we're pulling out of town, there is a rainbow framing the Sunset Hill...how perfect was that?! Reassuring too.

A big thanks to Becky for providing an *awesome* bag full of roadtrip goodies...for ALL of us....the toys and books provided lots of happy travel moments.

We stopped in Portland for a while to visit Leon's grandparents. It was great to see them, and they really loved seeing the boys. After stretching our legs at their house for a while, we continued on and made it to Roseburg, OR for our first night. Overall, the boys did great......buuuuut...we still have a few days...and miles to go, so we'll see how this holds up! :)

Saying Goodbye

Leon arrived back home (FINALLY!!!) on January 13; we've been spending the last few days trying to figure out how to fit what we need for the next 10 months in the back of our van. I'm sooooo happy to have him back, but now we have to say goodbye to home, family and friends. We had a pizza dinner on our last night in Spokane...a great chance to say a very difficult goodbye. We hope you come visit us!!!

Santa Fe

Mom, Dad, Adam, the boys and I left on Thanksgiving morning to fly down to New Mexico to spend time with Leon. We stayed in Santa Fe, and Leon drove up from the academy to spend two weekends with us. It was so great to see him, and to be able to spend time with him. It was so hard to say goodbye again, but the next time we see him, he will be done, and back home for a few days before we leave for SoCal. Counting down the days until mid-January!!!

I missed the Apple Cup this year, because we were in Santa Fe, but when we flew out of Spokane on Thanksgiving (two days before the game), I saw this plane at the airport:

Early Thanksgiving

Since we'll be gone on the actual day, and my grandparents are leaving to head down south for the winter, we had an early Thanksgiving dinner together at my aunt's new house.

First Snow

In light of our first significant (technically, it did snow for the first time here on October 29th, but not enough to accumulate to anything) snowfall of the year, here is a video to make you smile. Fortunately for me, my minivan is the only one in my parent's driveway these days, so I shouldn't have this problem. :)

Leon's Graduation....yay!!!!

After 3 challenging and demanding months, Leon has successfully graduated from the academy!!!!!!!

I wasn't able to be there, but these are some of the pictures that were shared with me. I am SOOOOOO proud of him!!

Wyatt's First Haircut!

I finally broke down and decided it was time for Wyatt's first haircut. First, you must understand that he was bald for about the first 16 months of his life, and so when he finally did sprout some hair, I didn't have the heart to get it cut! It was getting fairly long in the back, so I decided it was time. He did so great!.......held really still, and didn't seem to mind it at all. And now he looks like such a little boy!

How fun it was this year, with Beckett being old enough to understand and get excited for Halloween. We've had their costumes for a few weeks, and he has been talking about going Trick or Treating, and getting to wear his dinosaur costume (he has even worn it around the house a couple of times, preparing for the actual day....). Both of the boys were green dinosaurs....SO cute!!!
